Florence Nightingale is quoted as saying: “I attribute my success to this – I never gave or took any excuse”.
What does this have to do with writing your licensing exam? LOTS! – The fear associated with writing the NCLEX-RN®/ NCLEX-PN®/ CPNRE® exam lends itself well to excuses- whether these are intentional or unintentional. Here’s some commonly used excuses:
“I have no time to study”
“I have to work to pay my bills”
“I don’t know where to start”
“I don’t know what to study”
“I need a break from school”
“My family/significant other/children come first”
IS THIS YOU? ARE THESE YOUR EXCUSES?
If you are putting off your study process and the writing of your registration exam, ask yourself, why? Often excuses are caused by a deeper emotion: FEAR!
Recognize that fear is keeping you in a lower salary instead of reaching for the higher wage as a nurse.
Recognize that fear is preventing you from reaching the finish line and accomplishing your goals.
You must make the time to study. Start somewhere (N-Powerment Nursing is a great place!) Any studying is better than no studying. Imperfect action is better than inaction. Your break from school is coming soon enough; be patient, this is the last hurtle.
Your study process must be made a priority; YOU are a priority.
Take the advice of our ancestor and attribute your success to “never giving or taking any excuse”.
STOP MAKING EXCUSES AND START STUDYING!
