Day one nursing school: YOU ARE A LEADER.
Becoming a nurse is something that is looked up to by others. It doesn’t take graduating, it doesn’t take a nurse manager role, it doesn’t take a Master’s Degree- it only takes starting nursing school and you are immediately seen as a leader.
Perhaps this makes you feel nervous- even afraid – that’s normal. Being responsible for the lives of others while knowing eyes and expectations are on you can be intimidating (to say the least).
What does this tell you, though?
This tells you that you’ve now joined a club of the most respected, trusted, and highly regarded persons on the planet.
WE ARE NURSES.
WE ARE ESTEEMED.
WE ARE LOVED.
WE ARE RESPECTED.
WE ARE LEADERS.
Others will look to your example, will seek out your knowledge, will admire your career- take pride in this, and take comfort in knowing that you’re already a leader having gotten accepted into nursing school- only the leaders make it that far.
Move forward knowing that knowledge is your gift to give and respect is something you’ve earned.
Fill the hearts of your patients with compassion, empathy, and kindness- because: They NEED YOU- You are their leader.
